NEW
TRAINER LOOKING FOR A FEW MORE HORSES
The newest addition to Coyote Crossing is
Thomas Bockholt.
He recently moved his family here, and he has become an
immediate asset. Thomas’ strengths and background lie in
understanding,
starting, and training young horses. Having spent an
entire year working horses with John Lyons and then
having worked with several other notable horse trainers
in Texas, Thomas has developed his own style and
techniques, taking what he liked and what worked best
from each mentor. As a result, he is calm, quiet, and
most of all PATIENT with every horse he starts. He knows
that horses (like people) are individuals, with
different fears, attributes, abilities, maturity levels,
and potential, so he works with them as such, and he
brings them along at their own individual speed.
At
present, Thomas is working three three-year-olds at
Coyote Crossing as well as tuning up several older
horses. After only six weeks of work, he has the
three-year-olds catching their leads in the arena and on
the track, crossing trail obstacles at the walk and
trot, freely going through belly-high weeds out in the
pastures, and being exposed to every “monster” known to
a horse.
Thomas’ goal is to produce the “total horse”---the horse
that can be ridden anywhere and can be
surrounded by anything without displaying fear or
hesitation---the horse that looks solely to its rider
for guidance, direction, support, confidence, and
protection.
Whether
your ultimate goal with your horse is to barrel race,
team rope, trail ride, jump, or just enjoy some quality
time, Thomas will erect a foundation you can build on.
He currently has room for a few more horses, to start
their journey toward total commitment, trust, and
dedication to their riders. If you have a horse who
needs to be started, desensitized, or just “tuned up”,
contact us at
coyote-crossing@sbcglobal.net ,
onelooserowel@yahoo.com , or call us at
512-376-6251,
or give Thomas a call at 512-644-7997.
Welcome aboard, Thomas, Kelly, Luke and Tommy!

Autry
Cloud of Ash
Grove Missouri is the proud owner of
Born Free Bonanza
(Bo or Bear).
Autry and Bo had a very successful year,
becoming the Missouri State Jr. High Champions in Pole
Bending. That won them the right to compete in the
National Finals in Jr. High Rodeo in Gallup, New Mexico.
At Gallup, they had a little trouble on their first run
as one of Autry’s boots decided to try and fall off.
(See picture.) She managed to keep the boot on and make
a clean run, but the boot cost them precious time.
Anyway, they had a great time and a great experience at
their
biggest rodeo ever, and they bought some new boots
on the way home. Congratulations,
Autry and Bo, on all
your accomplishments together. We’re sure that your
w inning is just beginning!!

Paityn
Matthews of Gracemont, Oklahoma camped at
Coyote
Crossing a few years ago, learning the basics of barrel
racing and pole bending. Here she hooked up with her new
best friend, a tall, well-built, great-blooded sorrel
gelding named Skip Te (Skip). Since that time, Paityn
and Skip have won money, numerous belt buckles, and two
saddles, competing in cloverleaf barrels. They are also
often in the 1 or 2-D money in large barrel races in
Oklahoma and Texas. Way to go, Paityn and Skip!! Skip
can definitely successfully carry Paityn through high
school and
into intercollegiate rodeo.

The most
recent horse to leave Coyote Crossing was
Patas Pancho
Villa (Pancho), a 2004 chestnut gelding with a big blaze
and a bigger heart. After Holly and Pancho began placing
consistently in the cloverleaf barrels, and they were
improving their time with every run, we happily sold him
to Chris Hemphill (Sue’s nephew and Holly’s cousin) of
Huntsville, Texas for his daughter
Hannah to compete on.
Hannah and Pancho immediately began placing in both the
cloverleaf barrels and pole bending in jackpots and
youth rodeos. This pair is destined for greatness
because Pancho has the speed and ability and Hannah has
the drive and desire. We’ll be seein’ y’all often on the
rodeo trail!!
